To run this program, you'll need Windows 95/98/2000/Millenium/XP/NT/8.0/8.1/10 or Linux/Wine.
If you still use Windows 3.1, please e-mail the author.
Brief presentation of the game
The basic rules of the game are simple. There is a number game and a letter game. In the letter game the point is to find the longest possible word with the given letters. In the number game, you are presented with one 3 digits number and six 1 to 3 digits numbers. Using the four standard arithmetic operations, you take some or all of the smaller numbers to compute a number as close as possible to the big number.
Main features of this program
TWO DISTINCT PLAY MODES- In training mode, you can choose yourself the letters or digits. For instance if you have access to the French TV you can check out the results on your computer while watching the game.
- In competition mode, you play against the computer. If you select an appropriate level among six, you'll be able to enjoy a true competition where the odds are open. A topten table will allow you to control your progress and compare with your friends.
- For any operation, you can use the keyboard only, the mouse only or both devices.
- Standard GUI widgets are used (status line, toolboxes, context sensitive help, etc.)
- While in training mode, the letters or numbers can also be picked by the program, according to criteria that may differ from the original rules if you wish.
- In competition mode though, the standard rules are enforced.
- You can choose your favorite font or color for both games. You can tile the window's background with a bitmap of your choice, which can be different for each game level.
- On a 486/66MHz already, response times most often keep well below one second for both games.
- The included lexicon shipped with the French version of the program has approximately the same words as the French Larousse standard edition. As required by the rules of the TV competition, feminine and plural noun forms, as well as progressive verbal forms are allowed, but not conjugated verbs. The user may modify the lexicons.
- The program exists in French, and you can load the French lexicon in the English version of the soft.
-
The 32 bits version for Windows 95/98/200O/Millenium/XP/NT/8.0/8.1/10 implements multithreading for shorter response times.
Letters and Digits Countdown is freeware. You can use it at no charge. You may give it around as long as you include all the files without modifying any.
